Find an Address Identify Tool Search Tool Table of Contents Draw and Measure Print Tool
- Find an Address Tool
- When the viewer comes up, the Find an Address window is opened.
- If you close it, you can re-open it using the target icon in the
widget tray
- Use this address search to find the general area of an address. It
is useful if you need to find an address that is not within the City. To
find City addresses, use the Search by House Number option described
below.
- You can close this window by clicking on the X in the upper right.

- Address Search
- The mailbox button allows you to search by an
address. In this case you will enter a full address like 1026 S Park. The
tool will return as many candidates as meet the minimum criteria. From
the search results, click on the record you are looking for to zoom to
that record.
- Coordinates Search
- The pushpin button allows you to search by state
plane coordinates. Enter your X and Y in the entry boxes shown on the
screen and hit locate. The tool will zoom to the coordinates you entered.
- Search Results
- This button toggles to the current search
results window if you are in a search tool.
- Identify Tool
- When the viewer comes up, the Identify tool is opened.
- If you close it, you can re-open it using the target icon in the
widget tray
- Use this identify tool to find information that you select by
point, line or polygon.
- You can close this window by clicking on the X in the upper right.

- The identify tool is pretty straighforward.
When you use any of the identify tools, they will drill down through the
layers and identify any features that intersect the geographic area that
you define.
- The identify window is resizeable.
Pull the bottom right corner to make the window larger. You can scroll
through the result using your mouse or the sliding bar on the right side
of the window (you may have to resize the window to get the sliding bar.)
- If there are layers that you would like added
to the results, please let me know. If there are fields that you would
like added to the results, please let me know. All of this stuff is
configurable, so if it doesn't have what you want, ask for it!
The
point identify tool will identify the features at a specific point that
you click on. Click at the point that you would like to identify.
The line
identify tool will identify the features that intersect a line that you
define. Click the first point, click the second point, continue
until you have defined the line. Double click to end the line.
The
rectangle identify tool will identify the features that intersect a
rectangle that you define. Click one corner and pull the mouse to the
opposite corner and release
The
polygon identify tool will identify the features that intersect a polygon
that you define. Click the first point, click the second point, continue until you have defined the polygon. Double
click to end the polygon.
- Search Tool
- When the viewer comes up, the search window is opened.
- If you close it, you can re-open it using the Search icon in the
widget tray
- There are 5 buttons across the top of the search tool (from left to
right): datagrid button, graphical search button,
attribute search button, spatial search button, and results button.
- Attributes Search

- There are 3 attribute search options: Parcels By
Name, Parcels by PN, and Address by House Number.
- Parcels by Name
- When searching by owner, less is more. Enter
only the last name or part of the last name
to get a list of all instances of that name. For example,
"mill" will return miller,
millhouse, millton, hammermill,etc.

- The search results will come up in 2 different
windows: the parcel search window and the datagrid
window. The selected records are highlighted in red in the map.
- The parcel search window provides a list
of results one by one. If you click on one record, it will zoom to the
record and highlight it. If you hover on the record, the related information
will display in a popup window and gives you the option to zoom to the
record.

- The datagrid
window provides the results in a table. The table records are linked
to the parcel search window so as a record is highlighted in the datagrid window, the parcel search
window goes to the same record. The datagrid
window has options for exporting the records to a txt file or a csv file. This can be used for mailing lists or for
pulling those records into another application.

- Parcel Number Search
- When searching by parcel number, use as much of
the parcel number as you know

- The search results will come up in 2 different
windows: the parcel search window and the datagrid
window. The selected records are highlighted in red in the map. See
above for an explanation of these results.
- Address by House Number Search
- When searching by house number, enter the house
number without the street name

- These results show the list of addresses that
meet the criteria you entered. To get the parcel information for an
address search results record, you can use the graphical search tools or
the identify tools.
- The search results will come up in 2 different
windows: the search results window and the datagrid
window. The selected records are highlighted in red in the map. See
above for an explanation of these results.
- Graphical Search

- There are 6 graphical search options, 4 of them are activated at
this time: Point search, line search, rectangle search, and polygon
search.
- Graphical Search Options

- The graphical search tools work the way that
the identify search tools work. Please read the identify instructions for
more information.
- There are 2 additional options in the graphical
search: enable multi-part graphics and add search tolerance to
point selection.
- Enable multi-part graphics- enabling this option allows you to draw
multiple points, lines, or polygons and then search on all of them at
once.
- Add search tolerance to point selection- There are no settings on this. If you enable
this option, the tool applies a search tolerance that is hard-coded in
program.
- Spatial Search

- There are parts to the spatial search screen: apply a search
distance and search entities of:
- Spatial Search Options

- The spatial search tools
allows you to select features that have a spatial relationship
with other features that you have selected.
- Apply a search distance- this is a buffer tool. Settings include the
numeric search distance, the units of measure, the buffer selection color
and the transparency of the buffer selection. Once you have made your
settings, click on the apply buffer button. Use the trash can to clear
the buffer.
- Search entities of- You may select from the dropdown list which
features you would like to spatially select. The spatial selection options
are: entities contained within, intersected by, and intersected by
envelop of (adjacent).
- Print
- If you have created a map that you need to print, select the print
button from the widgets tray

- Fill in the title and subtitle if desired and hit the print button

- You can print to Abode PDF or Cute PDF if you want to use your map
in a presentation. You may need additional graphics software to convert from
PDF to other formats. You can also use the alt-print screen keyboard
combination to paste the image into Powerpoint
or other software programs. See example below.

- Table of Contents
- To view the table of contents and legend, click the folder icon
from the widgets tray.
- If you close it, you can re-open it using the TOC icon in the
widget tray

- You may turn layers on or off in the TOC by clicking the check
box next to the layer name
- Expand group layers using the + sign next to the group name
- Change the transparency of the whole map with the transparency
slider (you cannot at this time change the transparency of one layer at a
time.)

- Draw and Measure
- To view the table of contents and legend, click the artist's
palette icon from the widgets tray.
- If you close it, you can re-open it using the palette icon in the
widget tray


- There are numerous draw and measure options in the draw and measure
tool. Some of the options are obviously only for drawing like the text and
the point options.
- Click on the shape you would like to add to your map. Change the
settings for the shape from the options shown (line color, style, width,
and alpha (transparcency).
- Optionally, you can select the Show Measurements box to have the
length and area shown when your drawing is completed.
- Points- click once a the location to add the
point
- Draw Line- click at the first point, then the
next point, and next until you have formed your line. Double click to end
the line.
- Freehand Line- click and hold the mouse button
down for a freehand line, like drawing with a pencil. Release the mouse
button to finish the line.
- Rectangle- click on one corner of the rectangle
and hold the mouse button downRelease the mouse
button at the opposite corner of the rectangle.
- Circle- click and hold the mouse button down at
the center of the circle. Release the mouse button at the perimieter of the circle.
- Ellipse- click and hold the mouse button down
at the center of the ellispe. Release the mouse
button at the perimieter of the ellipse.
- Polygon- click at the first point, then the next
point, and next until you have formed your polygon. Double click to end
the polygon.
- Freehand Polygon- click
and hold the mouse button down for a freehand polygon, like drawing with
a pencil. Release the mouse button to finish the polygon.
- Text- Enter your text in the tool's text box.
When done entering text, position the curser at the center of the text
location.
- Clear Drawings- deletes your artwork and
measurements.
- Navigation
- The navigation controls are in the upperleft
corner of the map
- They more closely mimic the navigation tool in Google Maps or
Google Earth

- Double click the globe to zoom to the full extent of the map.
The other navigation tools are self explanatory.
